Keep raves out of the Coliseum, doctors urge

"Drug overdoses and injuries send scores of teens and young adults to hospitals after the weekend's Electric Daisy Carnival.

Several emergency room physicians called Monday for an end to raves at the Los Angeles Coliseum after a massive weekend event sent scores of teenagers and young adults to hospitals, mostly for drug intoxication.

At least two people — one of them a minor — were in the intensive care unit for drug intoxication at California Hospital Medical Center. Another minor was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital comatose; the minor had taken another attendee's water bottle and had drunk from it without realizing it had been laced with drugs.

Dr. Philip Fagan Jr., the medical director at Good Samaritan's emergency department, said the youth was unconscious for eight hours before waking up and recalling what had happened.
Raves, Fagan said, "should never be held any longer at the Coliseum."
Problems at the
Electric Daisy Carnival, which attracted 185,000 party-goers, follow other recent high-profile incidents at similar events. At least 18 drug overdoses tied to Ecstasy were reported at a New Year's Eve rave at the Los Angeles Sports Arena — next to the Coliseum — and two men died of suspected drug overdoses during a Memorial Day weekend rave at the Cow Palace in Daly City, south of San Francisco.

Organizers of the Coliseum event touted it as the largest such party in North America. The rave, featuring five stages, was held at the stadium and in Exposition Park, just south of downtown Los Angeles. A publicist for Insomniac, the company that organized the rave, said Monday that founder Pasquale Rotella could not be reached for comment.

By the event's conclusion, about 120 people had been taken to hospitals by paramedics.

Cathy Chidester, director of the Los Angeles County Emergency Medical Systems agency, said officials treat raves at the Coliseum like a "multi-casualty incident," which she said was similar to planning for a disaster like the Chatsworth Metrolink train crash, which killed 25 and left more than 130 others injured.

Dr. Marc Futernick, medical director of emergency services at California Hospital Medical Center, called it "unconscionable" for a publicly owned facility like the Coliseum to host raves.

"I don't know why our elected … leaders would allow these activities to take place," Futernick said.

"This is basically a government-encouraged … drug fest. That's the wrong message," said Dr. Brian Johnston, emergency room medical director at White Memorial Medical Center. "It's putting people at risk, unnecessarily. It's putting people's health at risk."

Teens as young as 15 were taken to hospitals, Chidester said.

In recent years, Futernick said, he knows of at least five people who have died of drug overdoses at California Hospital after attending raves at the Coliseum.

Health officials say use of Ecstasy is widely associated with raves. Physicians said some teens and young adults mistakenly believe that
Ecstasy is safe without realizing that it can cause organ failure and death.

In addition to drug-related problems, some of those taken to hospitals suffered trauma after people rushed gates to get inside without the required $75 ticket. On Saturday night, police made 63 arrests for possession and sale of narcotics, trespassing and drinking in public, among other violations.

The Coliseum, built on state land, is operated under the authority of a joint city, county and state commission. The
Coliseum is independent financially and is expected to earn "well above six figures" from the weekend rave, making it at least twice as profitable as a USC game, said Pat Lynch, its general manager.

"Everything was done in an orderly fashion," Lynch said. "When you've got 185,000 people coming to anything, there's incidents."

"Are we happy that there's drugs? No. But on the other hand, we take every step we can to minimize it," said Lynch. "There's a reason 185,000 people were here. They're quality events. My kids came and had a ball."

A report on the effects of raves on the county's emergency medical system is expected to be made on July 21 at a
meeting of the joint commission in Santa Fe Springs."

The ONLY real reason why people overdose is because they are careless, irresponsible, and just plain stupid. You can never die by ecstasy itself. A person dies because they are severely dehydrated and probably overheating -- which are common symptoms of dancing in a rave/club. If a person simply remembers to drink water, they can prevent anything serious from happening.

And here you see the media putting blame on the event holders or ecstasy itself, not putting any emphasis on the victim's mistakes at all. They didn't look down on the fact that they were careless and forgot to drank water or to sit down to cool down their heart rate. They just say that these events are "dangerous" and cause nothing but chaos and casualties. But the truth of the matter is, these kind of events bring large amount of revenue to the city and surrounding businesses. It brings more people into a city, increasing traffic flow in and out of vendors.

Look at me, I've been to a total of 5 raves ever since last year august, and i'm still alive. I didn't even come close to ending up in a hospital, not once. I take 2-3 pills at every event (during EDC i took 4 total, 2 each day). I stayed hydrated, sat down when needed, and had the time of my life every time.

Don't believe the propaganda they show you to put doubts into your head. As stated in the above article, with 185,000 people in one place, of course something's going to happen. But you don't see your city on fire or riots flooding the streets afterwards. It's all good vibes in a rave, and it's one of the only places I have ever seen where so many people come together with only one thing in their mind and heart: to have the best time of their life.

happy father's day, fathers

today Obama made an interesting change in his 2010 fathers day proclamation:

"Nurturing families come in many forms, and children may be raised by a father and mother, a single father, two fathers, a step father, a grandfather, or caring guardian."

and this was someones response:

OBAMA THE BLACK ANTI-CHRIST is NOT CAPABLE of SPEAKING LIKE A FATHER BECAUSE HE LOVES TO PUT HIS HAND in THE HOMOSEXUALS PANTS TO FONDLE THEM EVERY HOUR of EVERY DAY. HE IS PERVERSE, and SATANIC in HIS BLACK EVIL HEART. 2012 CANNOT COME FAST ENOUGH TO PUT HIM on TRIAL for HIS CRIMES AGAINST AMERICA, and AGAINST NATURE, and AGAINST GOD. THE BIBLE CONDEMNS HIM to THE LAKE of FIRE, BECAUSE HE HAS CONDEMNED HIMSELF to BURN FOREVER as A PERVERSE HOMOSEXUAL LOVER.

all i can say is..
HAHAHAHAHA

The Ugly Truth

"Squares used to be the ones who followed all the new fashions and generally conformed to what everyone else was doing around them. You know, the sheep and robots among us; the spontaneous inauthentic people that we have spent so much time trying to understand. Now you tell me that this has switched to where being cool means dressing to impress your friends because your ego, your self-esteem is utterly dependent on what they think; that you can't stand on your own two feet and that the square is the person who dresses like a nerd because they could care less what everyone thinks? Now tell me, what are the implications, who is most free, and more importantly, most authentic? Isn't the new craze in tattoo's and body piercing simply a vulgar attempt to gain attention and recognition from other equally pathetic and shallow people who have no unique, original, or substantive way in which to infuse meaning into their empty, insignificant existence? It's so disappointing to see young people so deeply seduced by these fashion traps. I understand the feeling of alienation and their need to rebel against conformity and boredom and hopelessness, but they rebel by simply switching masters."

Fly Like an Apple

i've been walking through
the hallways of time
and each day i come across
those faded pictures in my mind

we have now taken a sip
of each other's souls

i hope that we don't spit out
the very poison
that is carried throughout
our veins

BEYOND WONDERFACE

yet again another awesome night in my life

every time i go to a rave it feels like i gain something out of it,
like another door in my life has been opened
if you still haven't gone to one in california,
YOU MUST.

you don't have to be all into "techno"
you don't have to have interest in the "scene"
you don't have to do any drugs
all you need to bring is that thirst for life and that need to dance
when you go to a rave you can act and dance however you'd like,
no one would judge

in the rave environment, everyone is friendly
everyone is caring
and no, its not because of the drugs
it's because everyone is there for the same reason you are: to enjoy life and feel connected with other people that have the same interests

thirsty? ask the person next to you for their water
100% they would let you drink some
need a cigarette? ask the person next to you
if someone has their head down and theyre by themselves against the wall
atleast 5 people will approach him and ask
"hey man are you okay?"
"hey do you need any water?"
a person that you have never met would be willing to spend money for you
but go to a rock concert, someone will be throwing up
no one would give a fuck
step on someones shoe
youd get a dirty look shot straight back at you
i can recall confronting this guy because we were trying to cross paths
he happily took 1 step back and said with a smile,
"go ahead"
i can say that i have not found this immense amount of kindness anywhere else
but a rave

when everyone has that sort of connection, an aura arises from the atmosphere that
envelops the rave
it's not all about getting as fucked up as you can to crazy music
it's about feeling human, and being human
in a rave you are not restricted by society
(except the obvious: no going around and killing people, etc.)

you're not told by anyone to stop what you're doing,
you're free to roam around and create chaos
yes, a rave represents utmost chaos,
but it is orderly chaos
the cops and security guards watch from the sidelines,
but they won't do anything to stop you from living
it almost feels illegal that such things can exist and happen on this world
bright blinding lights, pulsing ear-bleeding music, people on drugs by the thousands
and yet the police watch from the sidelines

going through just one rave will change your life,
i guarantee it
sure, you may have fun in your life
partying, drinking till your stomach falls out
but a massive rave is a different kind of party
it's an experience that you need to go through in order to
fully understand what i'm trying to say
EDC (http://www.electricdaisycarnival.com/) is coming this june
and i'm determined to bring a large chunk of vegas over there :)

anyways

what does it mean?

when whenever i fall asleep, i will enter into a very
surreal, vivid dream, EVERYTIME i fall asleep.
i'm talking about dreaming for 8 hours on end, and then waking up
(cause of alarm or something)
and then falling back asleep, only to find yourself in the same
or different, crazy dream
every night
can someone tell me?

last night i had one of the worst nightmares
it started off really awesome, and then it completely changed
into some sick shit

i was going to coachella with a bunch of friends,
and then when we arrived there,
for some reason i got transported back to my old house in california

then there was a party there with people i have never seen before
while everyone was having fun, all of a sudden
people started turning into zombie-like vampire things... and started killing everyone
(they had fangs, moved as fast the zombies from 28 days later)
almost my whole family was there and got massacred
(my mom and uncle left to go get something)
there were bodies everywhere, there were constant scenarios
of me hiding in different rooms
hiding under the bed and in the bathroom
i can recall having a "scissor war" with one of the crazies
i had a giant pair of scissors, and so did he
(jmagine epic sword fights but with scissors LOL)
i basically subdued him and snipped his head off his body
the snipping felt so real, as if i could feel the amount of force required to cut that person's head off

then, as i saw one of my last friends to die,
i was the only survivor and ran out through the backdoor
into the front of the house. there i saw one of the crazy things running around so
i just layed on the floor and acted dead
for some reason he just walked over my body, and as he walked over i could hear
him speaking spanish to the other crazy right next to him (LOL?)

then i saw my uncle and my mom walking right behind them approaching the house
i urged them to not go in
i was hyper ventilating, panicked, and traumatized in my own dream
they called 911 and they were saying how i would need to go
to counseling because of all the stuff i went through

and for some reason, i DIDNT go to the hospital and me and
my mom and uncle proceeded to walk down the neighborhood and attempted to enter other people's houses
we came upon this creepy looking house and i told them, "NOO THEYRE IN THERE! LOOK THE FRONT DOOR IS EVEN OPEN!"
but they still wanted to go in. we entered to find 6 SWAT members shooting those crazies with mp5s
and then some more of them came behind us and tore my uncle and mom apart
i grabbed a sniper rifle that was conveniently placed by my foot and proceeded to shoot the faces of my zombievampirefied family members
my last memory of the dream was looking through the scope (i knew how to use the gun, scope and reload, for some reason)
and saw this crazy with a sniper rifle and listening to his ipod
i shot
i missed
i looked through the scope again
i see a giant truck running him over from behind
to make sure he was dead, i aimed at his face
which for some reason turned into a giant sized ipod (that covered his whole face)
i shot and a blood stain appeared on the ipod screen

and that was my last memory of the dream before my mom called my cellphone,
waking me up

thank you, mom
